PERSONAL HISTORY
A Biographical Sketch of
the Life Experiences of
Dianne Ruth
"I am dedicated to helping you discover a sense of
accomplishment, self-discovery, and personal excellence.
To accomplish this, I use creativity, innovation, awareness, empathy,
and the rich resources I have gathered over many years of a wide variety
of life experiences and education."
Beginnings...
Dianne was born
on April 28 and raised in Michigan. At the age of four, she was adopted by a well-to-do couple.
She grew up outside a small resort town north of Detroit.
She was brought up as an only child. Surrounded
by private lakes and wild game preserves, she evolved self-reliance and a
sensitivity to my environment. Her foremost companions were her horses,
dogs, cats, and other small creatures.
Often alone, her warm weather activities frequently consisted of wildlife
and nature studies, exploring the countryside, wilderness camping, and
water sports. Winter offered opportunities for roller skating at the
local rink, ice skating, tobogganing, sledding, plus time for avid reading and
hours spent drawing. Despite shyness and a secluded childhood, she
developed a sincere interest in people.
As a young adult...
When Dianne was
in her teens she left home to establish her
independence.
Because her business skills and work experience
was limited at that age, she supported herself with a variety of
odd jobs over the next few years.
Some of her work experiences during that time consisted of
mothers’ helper (now known as a nanny), housekeeper, stable hand, waitress
(now known as a table server, carhop, short-order cook, auto paint masker,
retail sales, working in a cleaners and working in a bakery. Additionally,
she
worked as a phone solicitor (now known as a telemarketer), receptionist,
elevator operator, and general office clerk.
Fieldwork consisted of selling institutional janitorial
supplies, art courses, residential remodeling, and printing. Wanting better opportunities in the job market,
she taught herself
to type. Her
employment history later included training in career counseling.
Dianne continued to refine her creativity and working skills until,
over nearly a 20-year period, she made her mark in the graphic
communications industry as an artist and art director, graphic designer, journeyman
typographer, cameraman, film stripper, and plate maker.
In addition, she became
highly knowledgeable in publishing, business sales promotion,
marketing, merchandising, advertising, public relations, and
publicity. Additional skills
she developed included jewelry design,
casting, fabrication, and jewelry appraisals.
Much of her earlier work experience took place
in several different cities and states over several years time. She
started in the Detroit area, then after a couple of years moved to the
east, which included living for a while in Philadelphia and New York City.
My
happy wandering days...
Tiring of the "asphalt jungle,"
she eventually relocated to
Indianapolis, than Gary and finally moved to Chicago.
Later, Dianne wound up back in Detroit for a
short period, before deciding to go west. First, she spent a brief time
in Fort Worth/Dallas area then she moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. Not being able to find
work there, she migrated on up to Denver.
Ultimately, she made her way to the Los Angeles area for better work
opportunities.
Los Angeles...
Other activities during Dianne's Los Angeles stay involved appointments and elections to
governing posts in several nationally recognized business,
professional, and community organizations.
Dianne also joined the
American Red Cross, Los Angeles, for 12 years as a volunteer. She earned
certification in twenty-four courses in Safety Services and Disaster
Preparedness, and several in Instructor's Training.
While involved with the Red Cross, Dianne received
extensive supervision and hands-on experience in crisis counseling and
casework for disaster victims. This was the beginning of her counseling career.
Returning to college...
Overlapping this time
period, Dianne became certified as an
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-1A). She worked with paramedic teams
and in hospital emergency rooms weekends.
This interest led to professional training and licensing in a medical model of massage therapy.
The result was an eight-year interim career with a thriving private
practice.
This included making house calls to movie
stars, celebrities and the "rich and famous." Dianne's beat included Beverly
Hills, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, elite areas of the San
Fernando Valley, and throughout the Hollywood Hills.
While engaging in work related to the
physical and mental health care field, she attended college full-time. Her initial academic goal and training involved
following a pre-med track with a view toward
becoming a chiropractic physician. Later, however, she selected a more
comprehensive program, and proceeded to earn her Doctor of Philosophy in
Clinical and Counseling Psychology degree.
Back to Denver...
After many years in California, Dianne
decided to return to the Denver metro area. She had just survived
a major earthquake. Her home was damaged and her practice was virtually
wiped out--most of her clients had
lost their homes and/or the buildings where they worked had collapsed.
Therefore, they were forced to move elsewhere.
Dianne enrolled in, and graduated from
the Institute for Life Coach Training. She had been told that
"therapists make the best coaches." Her goal was to learn how to use
some of the powerful communication techniques she had already mastered and
add a solid knowledge base of training in leading edge coaching skills.
Coming home to Southern California...
Now, Dianne has returned to the west coast where
her heart resonates with the surf, and to be closer to her family. She
decided she'd rather "shovel" fog than snow! :o)
Personal
interests...
In her spare time, Dianne loves exploring the
mountains
and countryside and all kinds of travel. She has maintained her passion for
reading. Her interests range from metaphysics, historical fiction, science
fantasy, dystopian fiction and educational books.
Additional activities
include photography, going to funky
restaurants with gourmet food, coffee houses with live music, playing
Scrabble, social events, and doing volunteer work.
Summary...
These earlier life experiences, along with
lots of education and training, have served as valuable assets. They
have helped her to more successfully understand and respond to your
personal needs.
As a result, Dianne is dedicated to helping you effectively balance your energies. Her aim is for you to unlock
your own personal power and excellence, and to discover your strengths,
passions, life purpose, and how to achieve the dreams in your life.
